Illuminati and Freemasonry
Related networks in the 1780s do not make the two organizations the same.
Explain documented overlaps and clear differences between the Bavarian Illuminati and Freemasonry.
Historical overlap
Illuminati recruiters worked partly through Masonic environments. Some individuals held connections to both. Overlap of persons is not identity of institutions.
Important differences
Freemasonry has a longer, broader, and differently structured history. Equating every lodge with the Bavarian Illuminati is a category error common in conspiracy literature.
